John Black’s practice focuses on construction and government contracts law. John represents regional and national contractors, owners, developers and sureties in all aspects of industrial, public works and commercial construction.
Much of his practice also involves insurance coverage disputes and construction financing. He has successfully litigated and arbitrated complex construction disputes involving hospitals, schools, dams, military installations, mines and commercial projects, located throughout the United States and internationally. He also enjoys a substantial practice serving heavy and highway contractors throughout the west.
John holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Building Construction from the University of Washington. Following employment with a large regional contractor, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Puget Sound Law School. He is licensed to practice law in Washington, Idaho and Alaska and he regularly appears in the U.S. Claims Court and Board of Contract Appeals.
John co-founded the firm of Dunn & Black, P.S., in 1991. The firm has consistently focused on representing clients in the construction industry. He currently serves on the panel of arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association and is a Dispute Review Board member for the State of Idaho. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Forum on the Construction Industry and a past Board of Director for the Associated General Contractors. he frequently conducts seminars involving current construction law topics.
